Why The Doppler Effect?

Why did I decide to become a part of The Doppler Effect?

Well, to begin with, David was talking to me about taking part in the group, and it is always enjoyable and educational when he and I work together on a project. In addition to being a close friend, he is very intelligent, very passionate, and very talented. It would be an understatement to say that he very different from me in his style, his approach, and his views of magic. But ironically, he and I agree on most things, we just happen to see them from different perspectives. All of these ingredients create a package that simultaneously inspires and challenges me.

Francis was the next piece of the puzzle, and to be honest, over the past few years, he has certainly been my closest collaborator in magic. Hell, he is family. Working with him is exhausting (almost always in a good way), and it is also effortless. He brings out the best in me, and I believe I often do the same for him. He is one of the individuals that it simply feels right when we tackle a project together.

For me, working with Arthur is certainly the most interesting aspect of The Doppler Effect. I have known him the shortest time, and I have seen very little of his work in person. And yet, everything that I have learned about him, and everything that we have talked about, can only be described as staggering. He is coming from so many incredible directions at the same time that it is completely overwhelming. I am honored to be even a small part of his creative process.

With all of that said, I would have to be insane to pass up the opportunity to work with three of the most talented people that I have ever met. They will certainly push me to places that I would never see alone, and I hope to be able to do that for them in some ways. To me, The Doppler Effect is a creative think tank—a coming together of minds to pursue, and produce, art that is unattainable by any one of us alone. In a way, I envision it as our version of The Traveling Wilburys—and since I am the old guy, I guess that makes me our Roy Orbison.

Regardless of who, or what, The Doppler Effect is, I must say that what I really needed was another project to cram into my already full schedule. But what the hell, life is for living—even if it does kill you.
